"SERVING AS AN INFOCUS CONSULTANT TAUGHT ME

ABOUT MY ABILITIES AS A SELF-ADVOCATE."

I was trained and paid to serve as an InFocus Consultant for two different organizations in Greensboro, North Carolina. As an InFocus Consultant, I trained volunteers for the Greensboro Bound Literary Festival and theatre staff at Triad Stage. I worked with other InFocus consultants to teach these volunteers and staff how to better serve people with varying abilities.

I am a great InFocus Consultant because I taught the volunteers for the Greensboro Bound Literary Festival and theatre staff at Triad Stage how to treat people with disabilities the same as anyone else. If businesses and organizations do not treat people with disabilities with respect, people with disabilities and their friends and family members will not be very happy.

When I was trained and paid to serve as an InFocus Consultant, I learned a lot about my abilities as a self-advocate. I am a great self-advocate. Since serving as an InFocus Consultant, I have noticed that I’ve been speaking up for myself more often. Serving as an InFocus Consultant was a really great experience for me, and think other people with disabilities should get involved with the InFocus Consultant Academy!
